It was a glorious experience on Christmas Day skiing over to Varda Flat and experiencing this view of Rivendell.
Occasionally we are blessed with enough snow to explore the upper reaches of Rivendell on skis.
This year it was on Christmas day. What a glorious experience!
Please glide through our Snow, Skis and Christmas Gallery.
The snow was perfect powder with a sturdy base, the air was still, and the sky sooo Blue.
While this gallery incorporates photos from walks on the 23rd and 24th, our route on the 25th was:
Main House to Taniquetil; a run down to the Owl Pond and back up; out to the Blue Gate and south on Strider Ridge to the cabin; back to TQ for another run down to the Owl Pond; back to the Blue Gate and down and up and down and around and back along the Varda Flat Trail; and returning along Tao Trail to the Main House.
We started cross-country skiing in Colorado in 1970 with wood skis and bamboo poles.
Our years in California necessitated converting to fiberglass-fishscale skis.
What a fine skiing adventure on December 25th—-
not as epic as a moonlight ski on Grand Mesa—
but in our own “backyard.”
We hope you enjoyed your glide through the gallery.
Please check back throughout the snow season and plan your own ski exploration of Rivendell when the snow is right.
And come any time for a Walk!
